CaraPol Soft Feel Polymers

CaraPol soft feel polymers are unique, soft touch, naturally matt, polyurethane dispersions with exceptional physical properties including abrasion resistance, flexibility, and water resistance.

These waterborne polymers allow formulators the ability to produce coatings and inks with a matt, soft, velvety, haptic response to a wide variety of substrates including paper, film and foil.

Naturally Matt

CaraPol soft feel polymers are inherently matt.  Low gloss topcoat formulations can be produced without the need for silica matting agents.

While the wet coating initially appears glossy when applied to a substrate, upon drying the polyurethane particles coalesce forming a matt and textured surface.

By reducing or eliminating silica matting agents the physical properties and the surface feel of the coating or ink is enhanced.

Soft to the Touch

The haptic response stems from the elastic quality of the polyurethane particles.  As one rubs across the surface the polyurethane particles compress and expand producing the impression of a soft velvety substrate.

Many factors can alter the feel of the final dried coating.  They include the physical and chemical properties of the polyurethane polymer, the particle size and distribution, its uniformity and the polymer’s interaction with other components in the formulation.

Imagine the Possibilities

There are many creative ways CaraPol soft feel polymers can be used for a variety of packaging, labels and substrates including paper, film, foil, vinyl, leather, rigid plastics, textile, glass, wood or metal.  These polymers are compatible with most waterborne acrylics and polyurethane dispersions and can be crosslinked with water reducible polyisocyanates, aziridines, polycarbodiimides, or melamines to enhance the overall performance.
